Psalm 4:8

Psalm 4:8 in the New King James Version (NKJV), reads: “I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.”

This verse is the concluding statement of Psalm 4, a psalm of David, where he expresses his trust in God’s protection, leading to a peaceful sleep despite the adversities he faced.

Matthew Henry’s Commentary: He emphasises that the peace and security David found in the Lord are available to all believers. He notes that worldly people often seek outward, present, and partial good, but a gracious soul will not be put off. The true peace comes from the assurance of God’s favour and loving-kindness.

Application to Modern Christian Living: Psalm 4:8 can be applied to modern Christian living as a reminder of the peace and security that come from trusting in God. Despite the challenges and uncertainties of life, believers can rest in the assurance of God’s protection. This verse encourages Christians to lay their worries before God and trust in His sovereign control. It serves as a reminder that true peace comes not from worldly circumstances but from a relationship with God.

In conclusion, Psalm 4:8 offers a profound message of trust, peace, and security in God. It serves as a timeless reminder for Christians to seek peace and rest in God’s protective care, regardless of the challenges they face. This verse continues to resonate with believers today, offering comfort and assurance in the midst of life’s storms.
