The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Galatians, introduces the concept of living by the Spirit as opposed to living by the flesh [10]. The old creature, representing our sinful nature, should be drowned daily through contrition and repentance, allowing the new man to emerge and live before God in righteousness and purity [8].
Application to Modern Christian Living
In the context of modern Christian living, walking in the Spirit means living a life that reflects the fruit of the Spirit as outlined in Galatians 5:22–23 [11]. These include love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control [11].
Walking in the Spirit also involves serving one another with humility out of love [3]. This is not a form of bondage, but rather an exercise of true freedom in Christ [3]. It is a daily commitment to live according to God’s will and not according to our sinful desires [4].
