Colossians 3:1

Commentary on Colossians 3:1

Colossians 3:1 (NKJV):

“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God.”

Teaching from Colossians 3:1

Colossians 3:1 exhorts believers to “seek the things above” because they have been “raised with Christ”. This verse emphasises the transformative power of Christ’s resurrection, which not only secures believers’ salvation but also calls them to a new way of living. The phrase “seek those things which are above” encourages Christians to set their minds and hearts on heavenly, eternal matters rather than being preoccupied with earthly, temporal concerns.

Application to Modern Christian Living

This verse is foundational for understanding the Christian life as one of continual transformation and sanctification. Believers are called to live in a manner that reflects their new identity in Christ, which means prioritising spiritual growth, godly living, and a focus on eternal rewards over worldly achievements and pleasures. This perspective helps Christians navigate the challenges of modern life with a heavenly mindset, fostering resilience, hope, and a sense of purpose.
